Breighton, UK Fly-in PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jenny
Wednesday, 29 July 2009

The Fly-in at Breighton on July 12th and 13th was blessed with lovely weather, though the rest of the UK was not.  We had a wonderful week-end with lots of aeroplanes and activities, but a rather dissappointing turnout of Buckers from the UK.

The highlight of the week-end was the arrival of 2 Buckers from Switzerland...

Jungmann in "Amelia" movie trailer. PDF Print E-mail

I do not know how good the movie is but I will go see it for the flying scenes.

I believe this is Larry Ernewein's Jungmann. Karl Pfister built a camera mount for the front cockpit.

70 Years of Bucker Jungmann Landings at Swiss Air Force Emmen Air Base PDF Print E-mail
Written by Rick Wenger
Tuesday, 21 July 2009
On July 7, 1939, a Swiss Air Force Bücker Jungmann landed as the first aircraft ever on a meadow at Emmen near Lucerne/Central Switzerland, what was to become a major training and flight test air base of the Swiss Air Force and the home of the Federal Aircraft Factory, now RUAG Aerospace. That aircraft, piloted by the then commander of the Swiss military airfields organisation, was a Do/Bü-131B Jungmann, whose tail No. is unfortunately not on record. The contemporary photo shows how the crew was dressed at the time and also how they were received by the local authorities.

On July 7, 2009, to the day 70 years later, the Emmen Air Force Base staff organized a small anniversary celebration, primarily for the personnel stationed at the Air Base, but with some dignitaries from the regional authorities invited. As a surprise to the invitees, just after the welcome address of the Air Base Commander, a Jungmann landed on Emmen's cross runway, stopping in front of the crowd. It was –of course- a Do/Bü-131B, HB-UUE or "A-15", exactly in the same livery (except for the tail No.) as the Jungmann seventy years previous. My son Marc, dressed just as one of the pilots in original leather trousers (stamped with the year of manufacture "1929"!) and a leather overcoat and me in the full leather flight suit dressed like the other pilot, were greeted by two kids in contemporary folkloristic clothing with bunches of flowers. The Commander of the Swiss Air Force, Lt Gen Mark Gygax, as well as the Emmen Air Base Commander, was also there to welcome us. Later on, the Swiss Air Force jet formation team, the "Patrouille Suisse" gave a demonstration, the initial low pass over the spectators in tight formation with the Breitling Super Constellation.

All in all a memorable event, with the re-enactment quite well succeeded, when the 2009 photos are compared with the black & white 1939 shot."

We would thank Sepp Ecker and all his team for organizing this excellent meeting. (Pictured with his wonderful Jungmeister D-EAUU ).

A never before seen number of Buckers from all over Europe and even the US ( Andreas Katz  with his brand new A-16 ), Francois from Paris and pilots from UK, and many more, came to attend this event.

The 2 famous Bucker " experts / doctors " Bitz ( Mr. and Mrs Griener ) and Joe Krybus met for their first time on this occasion.

Biside the anniversary celebrating Buckers, a Ju 52 and the Bf109 ( Red 7 ) showed impressive displays.

The highlight however was a linked formation flight of a Bu133 and 131 in quite bumpy weather conditions, as performed in the late 30-ies by the national German aerobatic team.

This was a really excellently organized meeting with wonderful people and unique airplanes.

Verybest regards
Albertr & Elisabeth

I am working on the bucker forum this week. You will see some new features (embed videos, embed ebay listings, insert multiple pictures etc). I hope we will also say goodbye to some of the anoying bugs that were present in the system, such as double posting.

I will post a message here when the updates are complete.

All of the old messages, pictures, files and avatars have been moved to the new forum system, although a couple of avatars seem to be missing. - Other than that, it looks to be ready to go. I will be posting revised forum instructions soon.

First flight! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Doug James

I flew my Bucker Jungmann today for the first time.  I have been working on this plane for 12 years.  It flew like a dream!!!!  It is N401A and is a 1957 CASA E3B, s/n 515.  I purchased the parts from Ron Jewell in St Louis.

I built the wings from scratch and replaced all the wood pieces with new.  The fuselage and tail feathers  were powder coated. I installed a new Barrett Lycoming IO-360, complete with the Christian Eagle Inverted System, using the Krybus engine mount and carbon fiber cowling. I metalized the whole bottom.

The panel has an AuRacle II engine monitor, 496 GPS with traffic and weather, Becker remote com and transponder, and a 406mhz ELT.

The FAA kept the Experimental Exhibition, but gave me unlimited mileage, a yearly program letter, and 15 hour Phase 1.

I have 2 more to do and I am anxious to start the next one.
