Since I am going to fiberglass the fuselage I wanted to follow suggestions by Eugenio, et.al., that the fiberglass go under the fittings... so I removed the tail wheel assembly. There is a thread on the tail wheel assembly for the 5's but I did not see how the unit on the 4 really worked... so here are a few images. Basically I need all the help I can get!!

Additionally, it seems like a good time to make any repairs and service parts that are not easy to access when the aircraft is together.

The RF4 tailwheel is the same as the RF5 one, just a little smaller.
Tell me what you need to know and I'll answer.

The tail wheel unit has two bearings that look the same.. one was damaged and I had to grind it off with no damage to the shaft. Do you have the size and/or part number for the bearing. I know I can take the one bearing I have and measure it but it might be more helpful to actually have a metric size and reference number to cross reference. Also, is the shaft set up to have a set amount of resistance?? Or just so it takes a bit of pressure to get it to turn?? Does the tail wheel geometry make it center itself or does it center and then break into a turn like my Scott tail wheel on a Cessna or Pawnee tail wheel aircraft??

The bearing is a SKF 30.203 (but any make is the same). It is a common commercial conical bearing, I think you can find it everywhere, also in the US.
The locking bolt in the upper thread must be set so the tailwheel is free to rotate with just a little drag.
Yes the geometry is self aligning since the wheel is after the vertical axle. If you want it to be swivelling like the Scott you must modify the bellcrank in order to free the tailwheel from the bellcrank.
You can find the modification bulletin on the CFI Germany website, or just email me to have a copy or have copy of my own (easier) modification.

as an aside, SKF= "Svenska Kullager Fabriken", Swedish Ballbearing Factory. Makes it so much easier to remember, don´t you think?

The reference number was VERY helpful... talked to SKF US and they had it in stock... $ 15.86 USD.
With the difference between the EURO and USD, I thought I should order a Becker AR 4201 before the price goes up again... they are $ 1290. right now and expect them to increase soon.
