Hi everyone

I just started flying the RF-4 I recently bought. The previous owner just had Trig radio fitted and I am not sure if he flew with it. I just had the magneto overhauled.

When using the radio I have massive interference and I am pretty sure it comes from the magneto as the radio works fine when the engine is not running and when the engine is running the inference becomes worse as I increase throttle. It also impacts handheld radios if kept near the aircraft.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? Is anyone using a magneto noise filter and is there enough space to connect it to the bendix mag? Anything else I should try first?

I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

Use a magneto filter, and ensure that the magneto 'P' lead uses a shielded wire that is grounded ONLY at the magneto end. When the engine is stopped, the shielded wire inner wire should connect to the outer shield.

That's how I fixed my radio interference, it was originally grounded at both ends. No magneto filter was necessary.
