ZS-UEM history s/n 4128
All I know about this one is what I was tod by owner Mike Butow and his friend Peter Goldin
15/3/04 Dear Bob,
I bought a share in UEH many yrs ago into the Murray Cohoe syndicate. Pete Goldin sent me on my 1st solo. UEH is still flying at Orient gliding club.
I found my RF4D ZS-UEM when a Count von Steenberg moved to N.Y and was ready to containerize it. I made an offer which after acceptance the work began. It had already been upgraded to a 1600 by Barry Turner who owned a 2 seat Fournier. He did the recover & paintwork as well as the mpi. I have flown approx 200hrs in this machine but have not had much joy with the aerobatic side. Mike
Wheel-up landing?
Been there but too embarrased to wear the T-shirt.
Bob all I can add is that you should mount your prop so that it is horizontal when cutting the engine.
In fact I haven’t remounted the doors in case I do it again. Welcome to the wheel-up club.
Mike Butow ZS-UEM
Hello Bob,
It is with great sadness that I regret to announce that Mike Butow passed away on Sunday 15 October 2006, tragically killed while flying his Fournier RF4D ZS-UEM.
He was an ever helpful, cheerful friendly guy. Always willing to pitch in.
He loved his family
He loved his flying
He was my friend
We will miss him
Fly well Mike
Peter Goldin
I tried to buy the wreckage, but Peter told me that Mike's wife insisted that it was burned.
That's all I know.
Yours, Bob
