Good day to all Fourniere’s
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the latest member of the RF forum. I am now 57 years old and began flying at the age of 15 with the ATC in what I now consider to be a gorgeous sexy ship, the T21 Sedburgh. After obtaining my A & B licence in the T, I went on to fly Chippy’s with the local Air Squadron before joining the Army where I continued gliding until I was accepted into the AAC and went through the AAC flying school emerging as an Air Gunner flying in Scouts/Bell 47 later Gazelle. I was able to fly in the Beaver on many occasions whilst serving with the Workshops in Germany. After demob I settled down with missus and 2 offspring, and as the saying goes A house, a tree, and a child. The flying days were put on the back burner for far too many years.
I now live in Switzerland and am building my own ship, which isn’t the first one as I still fly the last one I built on occasions. I am building a PIK 21 Super Sytky which is much the same as the RF’s in wood construction powered by a Vee Dub 1600. I have converted some 7 VW for AC use of which all or most are still flying today as far as I know. The 8th one is now being built in my Workshop. The documentation has been presented to the Swiss Experimental association for approval and the Registration is also reserved. I am hoping to start construction sometime in the next months or so.
Regards to all “Holm und Rippenbruch”
Roger

Hello Roger,
wellcome to the forum and the world of Fournietarianism. I guess you have already found quite a lot of information regarding the VW for use inaeroplanes and I guess we're also firm believers in "Wood is Good" although we sometimes have spirited discussions on how to best maintain it. I'm looking forward to hearing about your progress!
May the 4's be with you/ Jörgen

Hello Roger, and wellcome. I have couple friends who bought the Mellen's Super Sytky, OH-XTM recently, they have told me, that it's nice to fly, but very sensitive, stick movements only few millimeters. RF-4 forgives you a little bit, due to bigger size.

Exactly Markku and my apologies Roger,
please be aware that it is inevitable when you present an aeroplane other than a Fournier design that the ensuing discussion tends to suggest to consider a Fournier instead of XXX?? I was just getting there, but you beat me to it Markku;-))!
With your military background I assume you can take a little needling, what? :D
Just 4 fun and May the 4's be with you/ Jörgen

Hi All
Many thanks for the kind words of welcome. I do know the RF as I flew back seat in one some years ago and they are scarcer than rocking horse droppings to get one on the used market at a reasonable price. The main reason I am building is mainly cost but more so the building. The PIK is the third all wood AC I have built so I am pretty much still in practice. The first one a taylor mono is still flying here in Switzerland (now and again I get to have a fling) The second one I assisted in the building of a PIK26 which crashed on high speed taxying trials due to some freak weather and the left overs have since been in storage. The owner and other builder bought a jodel and seems happy. And the Super Sytky is now the third one. I saw the original XTM in the finnair museum some years ago and fell in love with it.. It is as far as Kai is aware the only one to be built outside of Finnland and only the 6 th one to be built. Kai did say some time ago that XTM is back flying. I would of course be interested in contacting the new owners for the means of information exchange. The Registration is reserved as HB-XTM by the way.
Regards
Roger

As I mentioned earlier, I know some of the guys who bought OH-XTM, it's based now in Kymi airfield. I will contact them, and inform about you.

Hi again
I just mailed to those guys, and they are interested of information exchange, they have also some fuselage and wing ribs, from an unfinished Sytky project, they can sell those for a reasonable price.
If you give your e-mail address, I will forward it to them.
Markku

Hi Roger, and welcome to the Forum.
I know and enjoyed the Taylor Monoplane, but I'll have to Google the others.
I look forward to learning more.
Yours, Bob
