Someone just sent me a link to these batteries. The power of a large aero battery but only 2 lbs.!

They are also "Dry" cell technology same as the Odessy brand I have been using extensively.
I imagine they are similar.
High power density means the battery can be smaller for the same output.
I highly recommend this technology battery, light weight, lots of cranking power and do not die when run flat like typical lead acids.
I have an Odessy in the Fournier that is 11lbs. It cost about $130 shipped, online at BatteryMart.com

These are actually quite a bit different from the Odyssey type. Odyssey are dry, but still lead-acid. These are lithium, like cell phones, laptops, and modern electric cars. They are amazingly small and powerful. The Odyssey PC680 weighs 16 lbs. including the steel mounting tray. I replaced it with an 8-cell Aerovoltz that weighs 2 lbs. Now admittedly, the PC680 was a bit of an overkill for the Fournier, but the Aerovoltz has the same Cold Cranking Amps (275) and spins the 1600cc VW just fine. And it costs the same as the Odyssey.
It is a nice way to loose 14 lbs. of empty weight.

Thanks for the heads up Dann,
could I take some more advantage of your battery research? It's time to get new batteries for XST, I'm currently using two motorcycle- style lead batteries. I guess the cranking potential of a battery is not exactly what I need, but could those aerovoltz be used as long lasting batteries to power just com, ANR, GPS etc or is it better to look for other parameters? And what about charging cycles- when do they start loosing juice?

I would guess that one of the 8-cells would be all you would need if you put it on the charger after each flight. I have not seen any specific power curves, but like a laptop or cellphone, the battery would probably hold power and drop off steeply when drained. The company makes a special charger that balances the cells and keeps it topped off. I would definately go for one of these in your application. If you do try one, please post your findings.

I was curious to see what this batteries drawbacks are and there dont seem to be any, except that some brands have lower discharge rates (Even lower than conventional Lead Acid Batteries) so you need to select the best brand.

They develop 3.3v per cell so for 12 volts system you need an 8 cell version.
I'll buy one next time I need a new battery.
