Hello everyone.
I'm new to the forum but not to the fournier, Jörgen knows my father since we part-own the other RF4D in Sweden. Although if im rightly informed there are now 3 RF4:s in our country.
I do have a question though. Im doing aerobatics with our RF4 and have read a lot of Bob Grimsteads posts about lubrication (so i will fill the engine with Liquimoly oil additive next spring).
My plan is to compete in the sportsman aerobatic nationals next year with our RF4 and i would like to know what kind of fuelcaps i can get that vents the tank so it doesn't get to much vacuum that restricts fuelflow and that at the same time don't leak fuel all over my canopy.

We have the original fuel cap with a piece of wire and a float and at the slightest negative G it spills fuel over the canopy so i'm guessing some of you that do aerobatics with your fourniers have found a solution to this problem.

Hi Steve.
Thanks for the reply.
I read the thread you posted and are searching for a cap through a former employee at E.I.S.

As i said, i'm new to the forum and i actually didn't know there was a standard cap for aerobatics made by Fournier so i thought that it was a modification that people had done.

Hi Fredrik,

I enjoyed your youtube video in the other thread, thanks for posting that!

Regarding fuel caps, I have the aerobatic fuel cap, but there are times when I wish I also had the stock fuel cap with float gauge. If you find a source for the stock fuel cap or fuel cap threaded blanks, please post here or let me know. I think the aerobatic cap would be far simpler to fabricate from scratch than the stock cap since there's no float gauge involved.

Anybody else have any leads on fuel caps or threaded blanks?

Hi Don.
I got a reply from Alfred Krewinkel at: a.krewinkel@t-online.de that i can get an aerobatic fuelcap from him, it will cost me 84EUR + shipping to get it to sweden.
I recommend that you contact him about a stock fuelcap aswell.
We should try to keep as many suppliers for our planes as possible i think .
Although it takes him quite some time to respond and the deliverytime for the aerobatic fuelcap is 6 weeks so be sure your'e not in a hurry to get the cap .

Hi Fournieteers and welcome aboard Fredrik,
sorry to be so late to chime in but been incredibly busy last months, hoping to get time to update the commuting thread since I've been doing quite a lot of that. I hope to get an opportunity soon to dogfight with you Fredrik as your dad Inge and I did over lake "Landsjön" close to lake Vättern a decade ago.

Regarding fuel caps as Steve said there are some very good threads on that and Ray had some really neat ideas before he got caught up in Porsche racing and other stuff, hope he gets back in the 4 soon.

http://sbeaver.com/cgi-bin/fournier/cutecast.pl?session=OB7Q73qLT5xaKeDXCHFBQ8keSC&forum=22&thread=671

The original fuel cap is similar to the one used on Piper Cubs, making the cap in itself is described by Ray in the thread above, you need someone skilled with a lathe. Here's a good description how to make a brass float from Jim Cunningham, a nestor on the J-3 and many other things. Brass floats are better than cork floats because the ever increasing alcohol content of MOGAS will dissolve the varnish so the cork floats lower and lower (Ask me how I know that, as Bob G says):

"We switch them out to the brass fuel tank floats for 1932 Fords, available from Bob Drake Reproductions for about US $15. Unsolder the cork from the indicator wire. Tin the center of each end of the float with a little solder (do NOT use acid core). Tin two small washers that will fit the wire (the original washers, for example). Tin the wire at the bottom and at the length of the float up the wire. Drill a wire sized hole in the center of each end of the float. Slide the float on the wire. Solder the bottom, let it cool, solder the top. Don't apply heat for too long, or expanding air in the float will leave bubble holes in the solder. The float clears the tank opening by about 2 mm. The circumferential champher in the middle of the float points down to make it easier to extract the float from the tank. I've made several of these and like them."

May the 4s be with you/ Jörgen

Thanks Jörgen.
After Steve told me i looked at the other threads regarding fuelcaps so i saw some of the nice ideas .
Ofcourse we will try to do some dogfighting soon with XST and XSK. Just tell me the next time youré in my region of sweden and we can try to meet up . I will tell you when i go around in XSK next summer aswell so we can meet. I helped a couple of friends from the club to buy a RF5B about a month ago so me and one of them are planning to fly together to some flyins and such next summer if the time is available.
And as i sad in the beginning of the post i will try to compete in the Aerobatic nationals next summer with XSK aswell .
So i hink we will get plnty of time to dogfight next year .

Good news, I got a reply from Alfred today regarding fuel caps.

He has:

Fuel cap RF4 427005 52,00 EUR
Float gauge 427006 34,00 EUR
Acrobatic fuel cap 450026 84,00 EUR

If I want just a stock fuel cap with the float gauge, would that be 427005 + 427006? I'm confused about why the float gauge would show as a separate item.
I searched the parts catalog but those numbers don't match anything.

Thanks for any help with this.

Don
