Hello Fournieteers,
we had a grand fly-in this weekend at ESME, the local GA-hub. A lot of people, super Wx, great display program with Spitfire, P-51 Mustang, T-28 Trojan, SAAB 39 Gripen, Staggerwing, glider Aeros (with wingtip smokes, alas no Fournier though) and much more.

But more importantly we had a "gathering of Swedish Fournier RF 4D's"- we were both there! Torgny had flown down from Ödestugu/ Jönköping and we had a great time. "SE-XSK" is in great shape now that the carb is rebuilt and Torgny said to remind Fournieteers out there that rich running and soiled sides might indicate that the carb needs some attention. Their overhaul was cheap (less than 100 EUR, needle seat etc) and it is recommended every 500 h if we're not mistaken.

Below is a picture of "SE-XSK". A neat detail is that the Jodel in the background belongs to my great friend Ulf (check out this thread- yep, same Guy):

Ulf owned the first RF 4 in Sweden (SE-TGX?), which contributed the tail to "SE-XSK" when it was rebuilt after a crash!

I noted that even though there were a lot of aeroplanes, Fourniers still attract a lot of attention. Also, a lot of people have heard of Fourniers and I was also surprised about how many were familiar with this forum. Keep Fournicating, Fournieteers!

May the 4's be with you/ Jörgen

Looks and sounds like a great weekend, Jorgen, and from Google Earth Eslov looks like a lovely field. I'm envious.

Thanks Donald,
it really was and actually that Google satellite picture is a couple of years old- now the two hangars under construction in the west end are finished and they also managed to lay down an asphalt runway in time for the Fly-in, in just two weeks. The picture was from before they let the crowd in, and believe me- it was crowded.

My Airshow highlight though was meeting the right honorable elderly Gentleman who came up to me and with a delightful British accent told me about when he did maintenance on Seafires in 1945, showing pictures and all. He is the one on the wingroot of the Fairey Swordfish- the one that actually dropped the torpedoe that jammed the rudder on the "Bismarck"!

Nothing like a proper historical background to confirm your own bearings and vectors, what?

May the 4's be with you/ Jörgen

Hi Jorgen,

What a great weekend fly-in. I'm really envious.
You two Fournieteers should get together and do some two-ship flying.

Last weekend wasn't so good for Matt & me.
We got weathered-in on our way home from a fly-in, and had to share a hotel room overnight.
And then we had to divert again after waiting for the weather to improve the following day.
Both weather deteriorations were un-forecast.
Two weather diversions in two consecutive days and one whole day wasted!
Oh the delights of our maritime climate, as you well know.

Let's hope that overall we remember summer 2011 as a good one.

Happy Fournication.

Yours, Bob

Hi Bob,
sorry to hear about yours and Matt's ordeal, but I guess "it's all a part of growing up and beeing British" as I think I heard someone say somewhere. And yes- the delight of a Maritime climate is familiar to me- we usually end up with the low pressures you are finished with! But then again, we do have a lush, green landscape to fly over, don't we?

Thanks for the excellent idea of pairing up with "SE-XSK" and try some formation flying, Inge and I actually did some years ago. We met head-on, unknowingly to each other, just south of Visingsö in lake Vättern. Almost instinctively we started circling each other, "Lufbery circle"-wise. By fluke we had dialled in the same frequency so I heard when Inge transmitted "-I can´t believe my eyes!!" And that's how there came to be two RF 4's in Sweden again.

Here's another two-ship flight from last weekend, but of course that was, as the Monthy Python's used to put it, "Something completely different....!"
