I was wondering if there is interest in a US West Coast Fournier Flyin in 2011? (18 months from now)

Perhaps good encouragement for some to finish their projects and get us out there to stretch our legs a little on a longer trip
than just around the local area.

Besides, if Mira can do the Atlantic crossing then 1000 miles over beautiful country should be so easy.

It will be a great adventure and since we are somewhat grouped in the states the flight out to the flyin will be with a friend or two as well.

Potential Flyin folks;

Collin Gyenes - McMinnville, OR
Bob Brock - Portland, OR
Chuck Nugent - Portland, OR

Dann Parks - Battle Ground, WA
James B - Mercer Island, WA
Paul Cooper - WA ?

Sam Mason - Santa Paula, CA
Ray Buhr - Riverside, CA
Mira Slovak - Pauma Valley, CA
Steve Ericson - Lancaster, CA ?

N30SX is in a project state in Phoenix, AZ, and Charlie Webber's RF4D is a potential if it sells somewhere near the west coast.

A lot can happen in the next 18 months.

Did I miss any? I'll check the FAA database later.

What do you think? Any interest?

Hi Guys,

Karen and I have two lots of good flying friends in Sequim and Seattle WA, so if we can borrow an airplane we should be able to join in.

Yours, Bob

Sounds good.

This summer (2010), is there a fairly centrally located fly-in that we could make an effort to attend? (OR or Northern CA?)

James,

Check out the 2010 Motor glider flyin in Minden, NV June 25-27 + Optionally Parowan,UT afterwards.

Not sure if I am taking the RF4D or the Grob 109 yet, but if there are other Fourniers comming I'll bring the 4.

After speaking to Colin, I hear that Mira is busily restoring N-1700.

Also spoke to Dan Parks the other day and he is nearly ready to fly soon as well.

Bob Brock has been making good progress as well and is likely getting close to completed.

It would be great if we could get a good bunch of the flyable Fourniers out to a flyin in 2011 possibly.

Given enough time I think we could get most everyone within flying distance to come out.

It might be a good idea to postal mail to all the others that are not regularly in touch with the forum so they can also plan ahead
for this event, and to contact previous owners to let them know about it as well since there are likely a lot of people interested
in seeing a rare large gathering of Fourniers in the USA.

Great idea Fournieteers,
I think there is a risk that hang-arounds such as Europeans, Aussies and the like might make an effort to attend as well.

Oh, and I saved some gas with the 4 again yesterday, engine time 25 minutes, flight time 1 hour 10.

MAy the 4's be with you/ Jörgen

Hi,

I should be able to make it. So I will have the RF5B to share and maybe have a oxygen system installed. My RF4D will not be done.

Well, I wouldn't say "nearly ready to fly soon", but I am working on it...

With some luck and perspiration (and no distractions) -- end of summer 2011.

Hi Sam,

I was thinking of keeping the flyin on the west side of the Sierra's so we dont have to do too much mountain flying
and for those driving its easier to get to as well, so O22 might be a good choice.

What cool features does O22 have?

I have not been there but did fly by over the lake one time. Beautiful area.

I think what we will need for a location will be a hosting hanger or airport lounge so we have a place to hang out, eat drink and chat, some amenities nearby like food and lodging, easy to get to by car, favorable weather and winds.

I was also thinking farther north to make it closer for the large number of WA and OR fournierteers.

If it were held at SZP, perhaps Sam could persuade his Mom to hold a fabric covering mater class?

Great idea, Steve!

I for one would love to participate in a Masterclass that would help teach all them there's Epoxy-resin heretics a lesson!

But seriously, Fourniers are special enough to merit a masterclass, and wood + fabric is a great topic for in depth discussion. Further, my firm belief is that the best solutions to problems are to be found at the end of a heated discussion

May the 4's be with you/ Jörgen

Just some food for thought, Colin said that there are a few Fournierteers from the Oregon, Washington state area thinking of coming to
the 2011 June 17-19 Minden, NV motor glider fly-in this year.

We have 3 interested, and I will be there with my freshly recovered RF4D so that makes 4.

Perhaps we have the beginnings of a Fournier fly-in?

Anyone else think they can make it?

The good thing about this is that it specifically for motor gliders and it is being hosted by Soar NV who throw a great BBQ and
also give us the run of their Hanger/food/drink/lounge facility so we have a place to relax on a couch out of the sun and a great place for chit chat.

The event also has informal Presentations/discussions and a group restaurant booking. Accommodations are near by and we make sure everyone gets a ride to and from their hotel.

I am one of the organizers along with Richard Pearl. Last year we had some Motor gliders fly-in from as far away as South Carolina.

There is no charge for the event apart from your food/lodging and the airport was charging $8 for overnight tie downs.

The airport is not towered and has fairly low traffic volumes, mostly gliders with a few light planes or Helicopter and the occasional light jet.

Just a ping to see what Fourniers think they might want to attend the Minden, NV motorglider fly-in this year.

I have to step up my recovering project a bit to make sure I get it done in time. Now that the weather is starting to warm I should be ready for covering and paint in the next couple weeks.

Just Pinging any Fourniertiers who might want to come to the Minden NV motorglider flyin this June 17-19+, 2011.

Looks like Me and Collin will be there so far amoungst the 20+ other folks that will be there.

They are comming from all over the US amazingly, WA, OR, CA, TX, CO, SC, TN, NY.

A very interesting cross section of friendly folks too. I personally discussed stuff with an Astronomer, a military and utility UAV company owner, some airline pilots, aircraft mechanics (Molt Taylors Aerocar was in his Hanger/Shop) and of course glider pilots of all sorts, including some Aussies describing record attempts in New Zealand and the Perlan project.

3 days is not really enough time to chat with all these fascinating folks and look at their ships but it is good fun.

Anyone else even thinking about it should express their interest and see if we can get them out by hitching a ride with someone else if their own ship is not ready. Last year several folks flew out in their other aircraft just to join in and one fellow had 4 empty seats in his big bird.
Also a few long distance drivers showed up with RV's.

So pipe up if you are interested in joining us, and we will see what can be done to get you out.

I'm hoping that maybe in 2012 we will have enough Fourniers finished to have our own Fournier Flyin event or perhaps combine it with the annual Minden event.
