Now that summer has returned we are leaning more about our RF5-B. The question ia about feathering the prop. We are having some problem getting the prop to stop windmilling after shut down before we feather. Some people have feather the prop while it is windmilling and we are not sure if this is OK. We do not want to damage the prop.

I agree with Collin, I had to slow SE-UDI down as slow as she would go to stop the prop. I have heard of stopping the prop with the feathering mechanism, but I haven't tried it myself. What aggravated "propstopping" for me was that SE-UDI had a tendency to run a little rich and would cough for a while after ignition off, also after landing. I guess the carb needs some attention too. Please keep us posted about your progress, will you?

I don't think the prop was intended to rotate at all while in feathered position. I found scoring on the back plate of the prop and determined it had been caused by people moving the prop with the starter after it was feathered.
As others have noted, slow to minimal speed to stop the prop. If your engine has good compression, that should stop the prop. Then feather.
