Does anybody know where the RF3/RF4D's main wheels came from, or have a part number or any clue as to where to get a new one?

I had assumed that, like its brakes, the wheel was from a 1960s Vespa, but Vespa experts tell me the smallest ever Vespa wheel was eight inches in diameter and held together with four bolts, while the RF4 has a five inch wheel and only three bolts. Later Vespas had even bigger wheels with more bolts.

As you can see from the front wheel in this photo of an early Vespa, the brake drum is significantly smaller than its wheel, which is why it works on a Fournier.

I would be very grateful for any clues to help me find a new wheel.

Thanks, Bob

Bob, for the RF3 the main wheel appears to be a special. There are two Avions Fournier drawings, one for each half numbered 3-40-58 Wheel Hub Flange (Left) and 3-40-59 Wheel Hub Flange (right). I have rather poor pdf's of both and while 3-40-58 is just about discernible in all its dimensioned detail, 3-40-59 is not. I believe copies of drawings can be had from CFI France, but I tried once, not for the wheel, and never managed it.

Doh!

I hadn't even considered this the wheel might have been specially made Donald! I just assumed that, like the brakes, they sourced it somewhere locally.

It so happens that I do have several of the drawings, although I had never even considered looking there.

I am going to be a bit busy this week with a couple of other Fournier projects, but next week I shall look out those drawings and see if I can get another wheel made up.

Thank you very much for the tip-off.

Yours, Bob
