So VW 'Beetle' engines have been flying for 69 years.
As a matter of interest, my HDO's Rectimo has itself been flying for a full 49 years without major overhaul. We put in bigger (1,400cc) pistons & cylinders a decade ago, and the magneto was overhauled 15 years back, but that actual engine has been flying and flying for 49 years. It has now accumulated 1,410 hours of a nominal 1,500-hour life, but its compressions and oil pressure are still good, and the airplane climbs at 600 feet per minute at aerobatic weight.
What truly remarkable, reliable engines VWs are when they are built and looked after properly.
