I am still discovering all the little "Features" of my RF4D and have a couple interesting observations.
I was flying this weekend and found that after playing with things behind the instrument panel (Changed out the Altimeter for a better quality and sensitive Kohlsman) I must have somehow broke the stall/gear Buzzer.
However when flying with the gear retracted and reducing throttle to idle I get this horiffic feed back in my headset that is impossible to ignore, even though the buzzer does not make noise in the cockpit.
I was wondering if that is unintentional feed back into my radio system or a designed feature?
I also noticed that in bright sunlight I can not tell if the warning lights are on, and plan to replace them with superbright bezzeled LED's.
I'm loving the way this RF4D flies and will need to go for Aerobatic training soon as it just inspires you to want to manuever.
I do have a slight left roll when I let go of the stick and noticed that the left spoiler sticks up about 1/4 " above the wing surface and might be the cause of the roll.
Is there a way to adjust the spoiler height?

Ray,
nice to hear your inpressions as you get to know your RF 4, for the rest of us itīs like reiving your own first aquaintances with our birds.
As has been covered in the "Maintenance- twisted wings"- section there is a factory-induced roll to the right on RF 4īs, so if you have a roll to the left itīs a bit odd. I canīt see the spoiler in the retracted position on the pics so itīs difficult to say whether that might explain it. Regarding the buzz in your headset, to me that sounds like a jamming signal from a loose lead/wire somewhere.

I thought perhaps the mechanical buzzer is arcing and creating static feed back.
I wonder what folks do when setting the engine to idle when trying to soar?
Can't have that buzzer making noise the whole time?
I was thinking replacing the buzzer with a peizo beeper and adding a defeat switch to turn it off when soaring.

I would clean the contacts on the buzzer and ensure that the arc suppressor capacitor has not fallen off or broken OR replace the whole thing with a piezoelectric device.
For soaring at idle, the most satisfactory solution is a time delay switch that operates for (say) 15 minutes, and then automatically turns back on. - Let me search some catalogs and see what I can find.
Next best would be to add a switch in series with the throttle position switch. That way if you forget and leave it disabled, you will at least still get a warning on opening the spoilers.

I replaced my buzzer with a $5 piezo electric from Radio Shack -- works great. No more noise in the headset.
To silence it during soaring, push the throttle foward (assuming it works like an RF5B). Just remember to retard for restarts.

That only works if the engine is stopped, not if it is idling of course.
