Just receved a large crate (4 ft.X4 ft.X3 ft.)of Limbach parts including a L2000DA2 display (crank, hub, case ,heads ,cylinders, accessories, and data plate) I don't know the condition of the case as it is covered in black paint, time will tell. The crank looks good ,but I have not had the time to mic it, but it is a Limbach crank PN 201. 031 .003. Is this a L2000 crank,and will it take a feathering Hoffman prop with the correct hub? Included in the crate were 5 150 CD's , 2 Ducellier alt. 3 Bosch 55A alt., all look to be N.O.S. I also have 2 new voltage regulators PN 170.114.002 Wehrle. What alt. does it match? The list goes on and on.
I would like to get everything cataloged so the parts can get back out to the group, and I can build up the L2000 . Does anybody know where I can get a usable parts manual and overhaul manual?

I have a Limbach L2000 in my Grob 109.
It has the Hoffman feathering prop, Mag, Starter, Alt etc.
The Manuals are very sparse but I dig through my stuff an see what I have.
Its a basic VW engine like all the others although with various makes of accessories.
I'll dig up my manuals and take a look to see what I have on it.
Where did it come from?

Ask Collin he has all needed documentation. Anyway the L2000DA2 is a standard 1600 case worked for stroker crankshaft and big bore cyl.
The Crankshaft is 78.5mm stroke and cylinders and pistons are 90mm bore. The DA2 is double ignition (2 Slick Mags) and single carb (Zenith Stromberg 150CD3), it has front starter ring and generator and in the accessory case it has the possibility to install a vacuum pump.
Please note that this engine is heavier than the single ignition and has 5 hp less than the L2000EO1/2.
The voltage regulator should be for the Ducellier, the Bosch should have it built into the alternator case.
Limbach has two different hubs, the one for the wooden fixed pitch prop (engine suffix EO2) and one for the VP Hoffmann and MT (engine suffix EO1) the first is bigger and has a pattern very similar to the US produced hubs (great plains etc) the other is smaller.
The engine on the G109 is quite different, it's a L2000 EB1, single ignition, dual carbs and rear starter and generator.

Thanks Ray, Eugenio. I got the parts from a shop outside St. Louis that aquired them from a Limbach dealer that had ended their relationship with Limbach. The shop had them for some time as Collin remembers flying through the midwest and seeing the engine , well just enough parts to look like an engine. Case, crank, hub, starter ring , cyls heads, accessories, but no cam,valvetrain, rods, or pistons. It may be all junk. The accessories look new, no obvious damage to the case, the crank, or the heads.The crank forging is Limbach, and PN 201.031.003 is stamped on the crank with what might be a SN along side . Eugenio do you know if this is the part number is for a L2000 crank, and if so will a O1 hub fit on the crank? I would like to build up a good spare, L2000EO1/O2 with, or without secondary ignition. what do you think?
Any way to know if the engine was ever built up? Or could it have been a dummy from the start? Data plate reads date 90, SN 1008 L2000DA2 the data plate matches the case L2000DA2 1008

Part number 201-031-003 is indeed the crank for the L2000 Limbach.
I'm looking at a photo I snapped of the crank that came out of my L2000 with that Part number on it.
It will be easy to get some cylinders and pistons for it.
You could go the Limbach route and buy the Limbach Nikasil cylinders/pistons/rods from the guy in the UK for a significant discount, or you could get some 90.5mm VW pistons and cylinders that I think are a drop in fit.
The VW experts say stay away from the 92mm as they are thinner walled and dont transmit heat away as well in Aeroconversions.(GPlanes uses them so maybe its not a real factor)
The 92mm VW cylinders where the same outside diameter as the 90.5mm so are 1.5mm thinner walled.

Each kind of prop hub with a 3° taper will fit the Limbach crankshaft. Please note that the 78.5 crankshaft has the taper longer than standard VW's and the Limbach prop hubs for the 2000 are slightly different from the standard one. The parts that fits into the case is larger (the case must be flycut to fit) and the taper into the hub is longer to accept the whole lenght of the crankshaft taper.
The L1700 is a standard VW crankshaft, with the same 3° taper but with the internal thread slightly bigger.
The Rectimo's is a standard VW1200 with the same 3° taper but with the original thread; can be changed with a 1600 crankshaft without problems.
92 mm cylinders and pistons works fine without problems, but they weight more than twice.
You cannot do a L2000EO1 (or O2) with the accessory case of the L2000DA, you must find an accessory case and full set of manifold pipes and divider to do it. Anyway the crankshaft, the case, heads, fuel pump, carbs etc are all the same. For the heads you can use VW parts, so as for the rocker arms etc.
If you have a data plate means that it was a complete engine, probably disassembled for overhaul or salvage, you must check it for dimensions, conditions, craks etc. but if you're not sure it is cheaper to but a new case, unless you want to risk to have to disassemble the engine for an oil leaks or other unknown problems.
