Would it be possible/advantagous to fit one of these emags to an RF4?

I'm also trying to sourse a magneto harness for a Bendix S4RSC-21 mag to fit Champion REL37B plugs. The length of the leads needs to be two @ 3ft 6in and two at 3ft - any suggestions where I can get one or even two?

I have been keeping an eye on the eMag for a while now. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, it is a little more risk that I would be willing to take at the moment. An internet search will show you that there have been quite a number of quality/reliability issues with this product and when you only have one, I'm not sure that is such a good idea. They say those problems are behind them, certification is just around the corner, and all is now sunshine and light, but I think I would let someone else prove that for me before I used one.

Also remember that the Rectimo installation is not quite the same as a Continental or Lycoming because the VW drives the mag from the crankshaft, not the camshaft, so it turns at double the usual speed. That would (I assume) have an effect on the operation of the eMag.

Keep the plugs cleaned and gapped, ensure your magneto points are correctly adjusted, and the Rectimo will start so easily you will be able to take bets on blade one or blade two

For an ignition harness, several companies will custom build you one to order. Aricraft Spruce for example. I know you are in the UK, but that is what this club is about. I'm sure most US Fournier people would be perfectly happy to order/check this for you.

Actually I'm in Denver! Well at the moment anyway - I'm lucky enough to be long haul crew, so can pickup Aircrfat Spruce stuff on visits. I think I have bought back half a Super Cub for a friend over the past year!

I've looked at Aircraft Spruce wesite and found mag harnesses, but not how to get one made up. Could you point me in the right direction on their site please? (I'm probably searching the wrong words or something)

Have you considered changing to car spark plugs and carbon leads? It saves all the hassle of getting aircraft type leads made up and saves a large amount of money. It also allows you to use decent plugs instead of the Champion crap. Every set of Chapion plugs I've bought - both car and aircraft - has had one duff one and at £30 a plug, for REL37's that's no joke.

I have Bosch W8AC plugs and Beru metal caps on the RF5 and NGK B6HS or Bosch W8AC plugs and NGK caps on the RF3, both with carbon leads, and both setups work fine. THe Beru caps in particular are a very tight fit and there's no risk of them coming off in flight, although I've never had any worries on that score with either setup. The Beru caps came from www.spark-plugs.co.uk You can get carbon leads from www.partsforaircraft.co.uk/ or you could use silicon racing leads if you really want the business. You have to use Bosch not NGK plugs with Beru caps because they are designed to fit onto the small thread on the top end of the plugs - NGK plugs have moulded ends, not the screw on end fittings used on Bosch plugs.

For the magneto ends you just need very small self tapping screws and suitable washers the diameter of the leads with a small central hole, push the leads into the rubber moulding that fits into the magneto and screw the self tappers into the centre of the leads from the other side, that forms the contact in the magneto.

The emag looks interesting.
