It looks like we may need at least some exhaust valves for an L2000. Complete head assemblies with valves would be great. Any suggestions? Thanks..

Don't be so worried, the valves used by Limbach, so as the heads and all other stuff are VW standard parts. The only parts you can't find are the crankshaft, the cylinders and the accessory case.

The main problem will be the related documents for those who have certificated engines.

Hi Ray,

Let me know the Diameter of the head and stem and I will get you a price. You also could send the heads to me and I can rebuild them or replace them.

Our engine is a L2000 with single mag. Could someone post the VW head assembly PN and the PN for the exhaust valves?

Hi,

I think the exhaust valve size is 32mm with 8mm stem.

If you have the heads rebuilt look at these notes from Limbach. Also if there is a small leak at the exhaust valve you may only have to remove the heads wire wheel the exhaust valves and lap then put back together. (lead deposits)

Thanks for the tips. We need to remove our heads to determine the root cause. I did measure the valve to rocker clearances. All cylinders seems to be very close to the required 0.008. I am thinking a worn seat or lead buildup on the valve or seat would have caused the clearance to change, either smaller or larger. What has your experience been with these cylinder heads cracking? One cylinder was 60/80 and the other was 30/80, both were whistling at the exhaust stack.
