Hi Guys,

The European season is now over.

I have to say the last few shows were the best, with better weather than earlier in the season.

The following forum pages include photos of my RF4D (and it's clear that I ahve to get better mainwheel door springs).

Enjoy, if you have the time and inclination.

What brilliant pictures. In addition to the RF4, it was great to see Ballerina still flying, and the (sole remaining) Tomtit looks great. The silver T28 looks like it has seen a few Gs in it's day

Hi Guys,

Here's the best photo (I think).

Yes Steve, I've always thought the Cosmic Winds were among the best single-seaters ever made. Before I bought my first RF4, I tried to buy Little Toni (the red Cosmic) but he would not sell (although he's had it for years and never flown it!)

I would love to have watched Pete's display, which would have taken me right back to Biggin Hill in 1964, the first time I saw it, and the first time I saw a Fournier (the demo RF3). Unfortunately, he was in the air practising when I arrived the previous day, and he took off immediately behind me on the day, flying his display while I climbed to height, so I could only observe from a distance.

She's a real pretty aeroplane though.

Yours, Bob

Is that a long crankcase breather tube running down the belly to keep it clean?

Hi Dann,

Yes, it is. I include quite a lot of negative stuff in my sequence, and of course the humble VW car motor was never intended to fly upside-down so, un-modified, it throws out about a litre of oil per four-minute display. That tube ensures it does not ruin the fabric or structure, and also generously lubricates my tailwheel.

I now have breather mods on both Fourniers.

The British one has the breather tubes running from its rocker-boxes, as recommended by the Austrian guy who's name I can't remember with the orange-and-white Fournier. That now slings out only a cupful or less in four minutes.

My Australian Fournier has a better mod. The breather outlet from the front top of the motor has a stack-pipe going down into the crankcase, so not much oil comes out. What does, goes into a collector tank against the firewall. You can see details under the 'Bob's mods' link. Unfortunately, the British certification rules prohibit me from using this system on my British one, since it is not an 'approved mod' and the approval process has become long and complex. Since the rocker box covers simply un-clip rather than being bolted in place, I reckon it's not a true 'mod'.

My Aussie airplane is certified Experimental, so I can do qwhat I like with it, which is great.

Yours, Bob
