Today I was able to complete the covering of the fin. It came out quite well I think. Tomorrow the rudder.
There has been a change of plans, however. My intention had been to use the Oratex process, but I changed my mind. There were three main reasons for this: Cost, color and availability.
Firstly, the estimate for the materials to cover just the tail surfaces of the Fournier was $2,000
Secondly, the only white color available is Insignia white, and I would like my RF4 to be a warmer, more classic white that that very cold, bright color
And finally, the US representative does not stock the product. Orders are forwarded to the factory in Germany who then ship direct to the customer. Obviously this will incur delays, expense ($300 shipping for 6M of fabric) and most worrying of all, the uncertainty of even being abele to receive international shipments in the current circumstances.
So it is back to good old Stitts/PolyFiber for me. I have covered several aircraft with this system. It certainly won't be as quick and odor free as Oratex, but I know the process pretty well and I'll find a way to deal with the stink
