RF4 Brakes printer friendly version

RF 4 brakes works fine until the brake pads are not cristallized. To change the pads is quite easy and relatively cheap, here I pay for new ones between 15 and 20 €, for the recoating of the old ones about half the price.
If you want a better braking system you should use 5.00-5 wheel and disk brake, but you have to adapt the whole braking levers to install a brake cylinder, a messy job in the tiny fuselage of the motorglider, especially if you want to do it without removing everything behind the control panel.
About the "umbrella style" handle, it is better like so, because in that configuration you can apply more force than in any other system, without the fear to break anything. The byke brake lever is not so sturdy, moreover you have not enough space behind the control stick to install one.

Brake pads for RF3 and RF4 are from an italian scooter, Vespa 150 Year 1970 rear brake pads.

I asked Eugenio about the brake shoes and he told me that the ones to get are Vespa 125/150, 127x23, Newfren code GF0087 or the equivalent in other makers.
I was able to get some and they were fine.
