My parents and i bought rf4d #4054 N1700F. It is a project and needs quite a lot of work. We have so far uncovered Horizontal tail surface and vertical fin. We covered the wing and control surfaces a few years back(My parents run a recovering shop). My uncle Is overhauling the engine for us, it has the stock 1200cc. We estimate it will fly in 2 to 3 months. My dad will hopefully sign up for the forum so his 14 year old son(me) doesn't have to relay everything.
Anyway, we were wondering is there a trick to getting the original cotton off? it has taken 1.5 full days to uncover what we have, its just awful! we're using a heatgun and pliers, it takes forever! And we need to replace the starter gears, anyone know where we can buy those? And is there a place in the US preferably Ca where we can purchase a new canopy?

Ill keep you guys posted,
Sam Mason.

ps. how do you add a pic? i clicked image on the tool bar and nothing happened.
thanks

I had the same problem couple of years ago and i got a good tip from Dave-LZ in CFI german forum, http://cfi-ev.scram.de/D/index.html :

I'm doing the same thing to LZ, I had to sand 8 layers of two pack and various other paints off before getting to the fabric.
However, then it was easy, just soak a rag in acetone or nitrate thinner place it on the fabric, cover with polythene (to reduce evaporation) for a few minutes then you can just peel the fabric off.

, it works OK
