We took the fire wall off and discovered it was coated with asbestos, did anyone else know about this? and should i be worried about it?

Well, in the 70' there was not all that rumour about asbestos. If you let it stay where it has been putted it makes no damage to anyone. Asbestos is dangerous if handled, because little fibers can fly away an can be breathed, but since it is enclosed between two layers of aluminium it is not dangerous.
