Does anyone know of a source (preferably US) for the canopy seal strip material? Maybe neoprene or soft rubber? I found a 2008 thread in the forum with only one reply and was wondering with all the recent renovation work going on if there might be more information available?
I also found a 5/8" black rubber p-strip from ACS, but it is a bit too large and stiff.

Hello Dann,
I used a British product -- a soft rubber P strip with hollow centre to the round bit -- recommended by John Giddins, but I know that at least one other British company (Bates?) produces something very similar.
However, I am now in Australia and don't have access to my British documentation. Sorry.
Maybe Aircraft Spruce has something over there?

Hi Fournieteers,
good topic, I have noticed a substatial amount of whistling from the canopy seals when I "soar the 4" (what a nice rhyme), and all true glider pilots must of course fight such performance stealing turbulence-generators!
I too bought a P-strip for window-sealing that looks OK, but I haven´t fitted it yet for fear of overstressing my canopyhinges, or rather their wooden interface. Which I of course need to fix anyway- thanks for the reminder.

Home Depot has Neopreme seal rolls in various widths, in the Door Seals section.
I've looked at it and made a note to get some next time I need to replace a canopy seal.

The company Bob referred to is C.O.H.Baines. in the UK. They do literally hundreds of rubber extrusions. They are not the cheapest but have been in the industry for over 60 years and hold approvals for British Aerospace and Rolls Royce.
So buy cheap buy twice??

Yeah, Well done Matt. Baines are the guys,
They do the canopy P-seal and the 2-inch long engine baffles that go on top of the vertical aluminum baffles.
I can't open their catalogue, otherwise I would give you the part numbers.
I'll try on the other computer when the cyclone's passed.
They dispatch by mail the same day.

The shape looks right, but there are no dimentions. Does anyone know this type of Baggage Door Seal and if it might work.
The one above it (05-00010) might work also.

Got a quick email reply from ACS on the seals.
05-00020:
overall width 1 1/8"
thickness of "tail" 1/16"
OD of bulb 1/2"
ID (hole) of bulb 1/4"
05-00010
overall width 5/8"
thickness of short "tail" 1/8"
OD of bulb 3/8"
It looks like 00020 might work very well. My old seal was about 1/2 diameter. Only comes in 25' rolls. I haven't measured to see if 12 1/2' is enough for one canopy so it could be shared.

Hi Dann,
One canopy takes almost exactly four metres of P-seal (with a little bit left over) so you should just about do it if you're careful and thoughtful with your mitres

I got a roll of 05-00020. Here is a photo compared to the original from my canopy.
It looks to be very close to the same size. The tail is thinker, but it should be able to be squeezed between the plex and the frame and trimmed off. I'm tweaking my frame to create about a 3/8" gap when the new plex is fitted to the frame. This should give the seal a bit of compression.
There seems to be exactly enough for two canopies if you don't waste anything at the miters, but it would be easy to come up 1/2" short on the second one. We'll see what's left over from mine.
