In the POH for my RF5B, it says that the glider will not spin easily and will normally recover from a spin within 1 rotation, "hands off" (controls centered).

Yet, there is a placard in English saying that the spins are not allowed in the RF5B.

I don't think I've encountered a glider that didn't allow spins (there must be some out there).

So...who created this placard? It's in English, so it likely didn't come from the factory. The POH seems to imply that spins are not a problem.

Any ideas/input?

The RF5 is certified Utility (semi aerobatic) the RF4D is Aerobatic and the RF5B is Standard (no aerobatics) this maybe the reason for the placard.
The spin is not allowed intentionally, but if you enter a spin you have the instruction of how to recover it.
The RF5B has also a lower Vne, that in fact is 225 Km/h, against the 250 Km/h of the RF5.
Many old gliders do not allow spin, for example the Scheibe Bergfalke in all versions (I, II, III, IV) and a placard with the prohibition is mandatory.
The same for the motorized version, the Motorfalke SF25.

ciao

James,

Was your RF5b previously on the UK register? If so that might be where the placard originated. The CAA or possibly the BGA (British Gliding Association) can be a little confusing over such things.
My RF3 has a BGA issued handbook prohibiting spins. However, my CAA issued CofA states that spins are permitted.

Thanks. No spins for the RF5b.

To my knowledge it came directly to the U.S. For all I know, the placard is a generic, standard category placard that is available through multiple parts suppliers.

What a shame.....would have added a little more excitement to flying. Not a tragic loss, however.

Cheers.
