Bob Grimstead Unregistered	Posted Tuesday, February 15, 2011 @ 03:46 AM Hi Guys, I've been taking engines out and replacing them with repetitive monotony recently. One trick I've learned is to ensure the engine mount lugs are correctly aligned before trying to re-fit the engine. Otherwise you have two guys staggering around under the engine's weight while you fiddle about trying to get the bolts to go home. And of course, you NEVER hammer a bolt into place. It's easy enough to align the mount lugs when you fit the mounts to your engine, provided you think of it in time. You can use welding rod, or even just the Mk1 eyeball, by squinting from one side to the other. Here, I've used a length of thin aloominum toobing. Good luck. Yours, Bob --------------------
JamesB Unregistered	Posted Tuesday, February 15, 2011 @ 10:45 AM Excellent idea -- thanks. I have used a felt pen to mark the position of each mount before removal. But if the marks were to be removed during a paint/rebuild--this is a great way to get the mounts aligned again.

Bob Grimstead Unregistered	Posted Thursday, February 17, 2011 @ 10:44 AM Yes Jorgen, your observant eyes are correct on both counts. I've now flown it again with that trusty, faithful, unbustable, 43-year old Rectimo, pending further investigation and fixing of the Aeropower engine, but now my BFR's expired. I was going to do it today, but my instructor had to fly his Baron up to Cue (400nm north) to evecuate folk from the cyclone-induced floods there. That pesky weather again! Maybe more flying next week. Then I can experiment with my new GoPro camera mount above my left shoulder, filming the instrument panel as well as the outside as I fly some very rusty aerobatics. That's something to look forward to. Then it's on with the open cockpit for some fresh (albeit probably rather warm) air. Yes, I'm just trying to make you all jealous while I'm stuck here grounded!
