Its on folks, hope we get a few Fourniers to come out!

Heck if Mira can fly from Europe to California in an RF4D then no one on the west coast needs to fret over
making a short hop of 500-600 miles

US West Coast Motorglider Fly-in 2009

Date: August 22-23, 2009
There may also be some Friday arrivals.

Location: Minden, Nevada (MEV)
http://www.mindentahoeairport.com/mta/pilot_info/index.asp

If you plan on joining us, definately get on our mailing list
(email: jb92563@yahoo. com) so that we can brief pilots on the
local conditions and help you plan your route and arrival.

We will have guest speakers on the local weather phenomenon (Wave)
and on Mountain flying and techniques.

We are also checking if some Motorglider Aircraft Dealers would like
to attend, since some spectators are in the market for a plane.

The local hotels should cost no more than $103/night and proportionally
cheaper for Motel6 etc.

There is also camping available.

A vehicle will be available for commuting to/from the hotels.

We plan on dinning together, oogling planes, learning, chatting, flying
and just having a lot of fun.

Spectators are welcome.

Come join us and have a good time.

One last time folks, come on out to this event.

We have about 13 Motorgliders that have confirmed of various types and an equal number of
spectating pilots and wanabe's as well.

A few will be for sale and we may have a dealer or two as well.

Note: We have a special rate at the Historian Inn, Gardnerville, NV) at the rate of $88/night including tax. It’s not a huge place so book early. (775.783.1175). The hotel is right across the street from the Basque Restaurant. Mention the Fly-In for the discount. Other options are the Carson Valley Inn (Minden) at $103/night plus tax), or the Best Western ($90/night plus tax)

Most of the shots are of my flight in the Grob 109 flying from Lake Elsinore, CA to Minden, NV by way of the Owens Valley in the lee of the Sierras. Only 400 miles but my longest flight ever and a good confidence builder for future further flights.

Learned a few things like how to request radar flight following....it was easy and entertaining as the radar controller was clearing me through MOA's and avising me and other traffic of my presensce.

The most interesting thing was radar advising a pair of F-22 Raptors of my location and later mentioned they were refueling in flight. I never saw nor heard them as they are very stealhy.

It was a great event, enjoyed the flight up, learned a lot about Wave from the awesome nice soaringNV.com people at Minden, but on Sunday the weather deteriorated with rain, low ceilings, embedded thunderstorms etc in the Minden area so I had to take a commercial flight home.

I'll go pick up the Grob for the return flight in a week or two.

Ray
