Hi Dann,
Yes, it is. I include quite a lot of negative stuff in my sequence, and of course the humble VW car motor was never intended to fly upside-down so, un-modified, it throws out about a litre of oil per four-minute display. That tube ensures it does not ruin the fabric or structure, and also generously lubricates my tailwheel.
I now have breather mods on both Fourniers.
The British one has the breather tubes running from its rocker-boxes, as recommended by the Austrian guy who's name I can't remember with the orange-and-white Fournier. That now slings out only a cupful or less in four minutes.
My Australian Fournier has a better mod. The breather outlet from the front top of the motor has a stack-pipe going down into the crankcase, so not much oil comes out. What does, goes into a collector tank against the firewall. You can see details under the 'Bob's mods' link. Unfortunately, the British certification rules prohibit me from using this system on my British one, since it is not an 'approved mod' and the approval process has become long and complex. Since the rocker box covers simply un-clip rather than being bolted in place, I reckon it's not a true 'mod'.
My Aussie airplane is certified Experimental, so I can do qwhat I like with it, which is great.
Yours, Bob
