The A-48 was built in 1939 and restored in Switzerland in 1999 with all original parts, but not flown for many years. The former owner had a crash in another aircraft and his widow kept his A-48 for emotional reasons even she does not fly herself. She finally sold the aircraft in 2008.
We got it airborne again in 2015 and enjoy it very much since then. The Hirth engine runs very smoothly and starts easily with the hand crank.
We, the SternTakt group, also operate a CASA 1.131. It is remarkable how dissimilar the handling characteristics are with the original Hirth engine as the weight distribution is completely different.
It was now the time to take her back into the Swiss Alps and to Altenrhein where she was built to let her smell the mountain air that she had missed for such a long time. On a perfect day last week we crossed the alpine pass San Bernardino to Locarno and returned via Sankt Gotthardt, which made her see all the places she had been before.
All the best!
