Bernard Charbonnel was considering whether or not to recover his Jungmeister, but a look inside the wings made it clear that it was something that needed to be done. One of the drag wires had broken where the threaded section starts.
Back in the days of cotton covering, the aircraft was uncovered every few years like it or not. These days dacron covering lasts for decades and when the time does come to replace it the cost can run to $35,000. Not a decision to be taken lightly! This is the second Bücker I know of where a major structural issue was discovered in 2014 only because the fabric had been completely removed. Makes you think!
Regarding the " wire failure " in the Jungmeister wing , we now understand the cause ( according metal specialist ) and it should be interesting to the Bücker community .. It is also very surprising : The failure was not causedby fatigue ( the wings never flew since the were re-covered in the 90's ) , it was not corrosion, but the wire was repaired /welded on 10cm length !!!! amazing no ??? - Bernard
